Angelique Poisson, LMFT, ATR presents on

"Antiracism in Clinical Work: A Mindfulness Practice".

  11:30 - 1:30 pm via Zoom

" In this workshop, participants will engage in a discussion about what it means to be an antiracist therapist and practice in a culturally responsive way. Applying antiracism as a mindfulness practice allows clinicians to be authentic and accountable, while holding space for the systemic injustices that affect all our clients. During this workshop, we will explore our own biases and blind spots, learn how shame gets in the way of culturally responsive care, and begin to integrate an antiracist lens that can promote positive clinical outcomes."

Workshop Objectives

• Therapists will be able to discern at least three behaviors that are aligned with unjustified shame and that get in the way of culturally responsive care

• Therapists will be able to identify three positive outcomes of integrating antiracism into clinical practice

• Therapists will identify and explore one blind spot that may become an opportunity to actively practice antiracism and cultural humility

Workshop Overview

• Mindfulness Activity

• What it means to be an antiracist therapist

• Dismantling shame to create space for therapy

• Antiracist implications in clinical interventions
