Please Join Us on April 16th in welcoming Madelyn Swed
Couples often come into our office with intense emotional reactivity that is not easily relinquished.
These couples are stuck in rigid patterns of interaction with little capacity for cognitive flexibility, empathy, or affiliative responses.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidenced based approach to working with couples that puts emotion at the clinical forefront as both the target and primary mechanism of change.
Based on the research and development by Dr. Sue Johnson it has the highest success rates in couples therapy.
In EFT systemic and experiential interventions are used to restructure negative interaction cycles and facilitate new cycles of emotional engagement that foster more secure attachment bonds.
Attendees will:
- Learn the tenets of adult attachment and how we are wired for connection
- Learn to read the emotional signals clients are sending and what they are trying to tell us
- Differentiate secondary from primary emotion
- Learn common pitfalls in couple's therapy
- Learn the 3 Stages and 9 Steps of EFT- Emotionally Focused Couple's Therapy
