Working With OCD: It's Not What You Think!

Who: SBCAMFT members and Non-SBCAMFT members  (Join now!)

Where: Zoom

When: October 18, 2024 from 9:30-11:30

Description: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a complex diagnosis, due to the differences in symptom presentation. We will describe the symptomatology of OCD, and provide an overview of obsessions and compulsions, prevalence of the disorder, co-occurring diagnoses and a case example followed by a question and answer. Then, we will review assessments for both anxiety and OCD, and explain the empirically supported therapeutic interventions and treatment models. There will be time for questions and answers and sharing resources.

This course is designed to enhance therapists’ ability to accurately identify and differentiate between obsessions (intrusive, unwanted thoughts) and compulsions (repetitive behaviors or mental acts). It aims to improve therapists’ skills in assessing and evaluating clients’ obsessions and compulsions, enabling them to distinguish between anxiety disorders and OCD. Additionally, therapists will gain a comprehensive understanding of the available treatment interventions for adolescents and adults with OCD.

Cost: SBCAMFT members: $25; SBCAMFT Pre-licensed members: $15; Non-SBCAMFT members: $30; General admission (no CE credits): $15.
