    Pre-Licensed Support Group

    Who: Pre-licensed SBCAMFT members and Non-SBCAMFT members  (Join now!)

    Where: Zoom (link will be provided with registration)

    When: First Friday of every month from 10am-11am (with exceptions)

    Description: This virtual event for pre-licensed clinicians is a great place to come together to support one another during your pre-licensed journey. We will have a guest speaker at each meeting who is a licensed clinician who can share their journey and answer questions the group has for them. Peer support groups do not include case consultations.

    Law and Ethics: Creating Clarity, Focus, and Reasonable Expectations at Outset of Treatment and Beyond

    Description: During this 3-hour Law and Ethics presentation CAMFT Staff Attorney, Sara Jasper, will describe key issues to address at the outset of treatment with a particular emphasis on the importance of identifying the patient unit of treatment and setting up reasonable expectations within the patient unit. Ms. Jasper will talk about how this can be achieved through a discussion of patient goals, clarification of professional boundaries and competencies as well as key policies and procedures. Ms. Jasper will cover the No Surprises Act and how to discuss Medicare with patients now that LMFTs (and LPCCs) are Medicare eligible. Finally, Ms. Jasper to discuss additional issues to consider when treating patients with disabilities. The legal and practical information covered will help clinicians comply with their Americans with Disabilities (ADA) responsibilities.

    The workshop will also address some of the most complex reporting issues therapists face, including: distinguishing between lawful vs. unlawful corporal punishment, when / whether to report consensual sexual activity with and between minors, and how CANRA’s mandated reporting rules apply to sexting between minors.

    About the Presenter: A member of the State Bar of California since 2008, Sara Jasper, Esq. joined CAMFT as a Staff Attorney in 2011. Before coming to CAMFT, she worked as the Legal Liaison and Administrative Officer for the Sacramento Police Department and as an Associate at Middleton, Young & Minney, LLP where she practiced education and employment law. During law school, Sara clerked for the California Judicial Council, Center for Children, Families and the Courts and for the National Center for Youth Law. Since joining CAMFT, Sara has become a Certified Association Executive and earned her certificate in Nonprofit Organization Management. As a CAMFT staff attorney, Brad takes member phone calls regarding law and ethics issues and contributes articles on those subjects to CAMFT's publication, the Therapist. Prior to joining CAMFT’s legal team, Brad worked on litigation and regulatory matters as an attorney for San Diego Gas & Electric Company.

    SBCAMFT CE Event: Somatic Techniques for Higher Functioning Autism in Adults

    When: June 26, 2024 12-1:30 p.m. 

    Description: This presentation will be an introduction to identifying symptoms and need in adults ages 25-60, a quick psychoeducation tool for supporting clients understanding of need, and providing somatic practices in support of grounding and calming.

    Objectives: Participants will be able to name four techniques for grounding neurodivergent adults. Participants will be able to name two techniques for calming neurodivergent adults. Participants will be able to identify 3 educational resources to offer neurodivergent adults in support of psychoeducation. Participants will be able to identify multiple symptoms sets that suggest neurodivergence as a primary concern for adult clients struggling with social, emotional, self care, and relationship issues.

    Cost: $10 for Student/Associate members, $20 for SBCAMFT members, $25 for all State CAMFT members, and $30 for Non-SBCAMFT members (Join now!)

    About the presenter: Rebekah is an associate marriage and family therapist with specialties in Somatic Psychology, LGBTQ+ populations, Archetypal Psychology, Creative Processing, and Trauma informed care. Rebekah holds a Ph.D. from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Mythological Studies with Depth Psychology, and a second Masters Degree from Antioch University in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Somatic Psychology. She is an EMDR trained therapist. Rebekah is a safe space for queer, open, and alternative lifestyles, and offers Neurodivergent Affirming Care.
