E hoa here ma, 'ia ora na! 🌺

My name is Aute (pronounced "awe-tay" like latte without the L)! I work with folks on anxiety, perfectionism, trauma, relationship issues, family conflict, interracial relationships, and identity exploration from a decolonial, liberation-centered lens. My care work is influenced by my own lived experiences as a mixed-race Mā'ohi (Tahitian) and English cis-woman, untangling myself from the contrasting expectations and values of my communities. As a result, I am passionate about supporting multiracial people, bicultural people, Pacific Islanders, as well as those who are queer-identifying or white allies. I believe that placing my client's symptoms within the context of culture, history, capitalism, systemic oppression, and intergenerational trauma are a crucial part of the healing process.

Western psychology asks: “What is wrong with you?” Trauma-informed psychology asks: “What happened to you?" Cultural-informed psychology asks: “What happened to your people?" Liberation-oriented psychology asks: “What has happened and continues to happen to your people?”

— Linda Thai, LCSW My approach is gentle, collaborative, and integrative. I work with adults and teens one-on-one, as well as provide relationship therapy (romantic and family). I aim for the relationship we build to become a tool in itself for exploring past wounds and challenges. Other tools I incorporate are from modalities such as psychodynamic, somatic experiencing, IFS, PACT, family systems, and attachment. I have specialized training in somatic regulation skills, Brainspotting, and cultural integration, and have experience treating complex-trauma, Borderline Personality Disorder, substance issues, grief, OCD, eating disorders, and neurodivergence (ADHD and Autism).

I see clients online in California, and in-person in Downtown Santa Barbara. Fees are based on an Anti-Oppressive Rate Questionnaire and sliding scale tier-system.

If you're interested in working together, I offer a free phone consultation, as well as a free 30-minute consultation (can be either online or in-person) to help us determine if it feels like a good fit 🤗 🌺 Mauruuru, te aroha ia rahi!

From the Archives: Pride!
Pride honors the LGBTQIA+ community — folks who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, and Ace/ Asexual. The + includes identities not listed in this acronym, such as third gender identities from cultures outside of the Western context. Examples are the hijra (India), muxe (Zapotec people of Oaxaca), and fa'afafine (Sāmoa). Some third gender identities, like the baklâ (Philippines), and māhū (Polynesia), played sacred spiritual, healing, and leadership roles in their...
